Two Worlds was a planned role-playing game developed by Metropolis Software House. First announced officially on their website on February 23, 2000, and set to be published by TopWare Interactive. It was slated for a summer 2001 release, but most of the links on the official web pages disappeared around March/April 2001. The Russian localization was set for 2002.[1] It didn't resurface again until December 2005 with Reality Pump in Charge of development. The original logo was kept, although modified slightly. The only other thing that seems to have been kept from the original game is the name Quidarians, which is extremely similar to the name of the city of Qudinar.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The action takes place in the Kroth Universe, a world populated by hundreds of thousands of different races. However, these races have no knowledge of each other, for the Kroth Universe has some interesting physical characteristics. A strange type of dust prohibits each planet from seeing the other. Since each planet has an atmosphere that keeps the dust-out, intelligent life is possible, but only within the planetary sphere. The result is like thousands of goldfish bowls covered in canopies. Lack of visibility has prevented the races from developing space travel or any form of long-distance communication. The result is that all these races live in blissful ignorance of the universe around them and have developed in very different and sometimes highly unusual ways. The inhabitants of the Kroth Universe live a dream-like existence - until one day on the Planet Therea Quan, several days before the start of the Third Millennium in the year 3001, a space/time collision changes things forever. Two worlds, populated by two very different races - Quidarians and en’Ceer (VadaiŽen Ceer) meet in time and space and engage in a bitter fight. Only one of these races can emerge victoriously. A player will take the role of Ned Jash - a Quidarian’s special agent dropped in the middle of the conflict.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Two Worlds was supposed to combine all the depth of role-playing games with all the action and strategy of real-time strategy games. Central to the game was said to be an innovative, well-written storyline, plausible characters the player can identify with, and challenging gameplay packed with adventure and combat. According to TopWare's e3 sheet on the game, Two Worlds was going to combine a variety of RPG elements with popular RTS elements to create a different kind of roleplaying experience.

RPG elements were set to include character personality and identification, character statistics, character development, "Psych-abilities" (a replacement for spells), weapon skills and levels, experience points, hundreds of subquests, NPCs with unique personalities, cinematic real-time cutscenes that use the game engine and enemies with different characteristics and levels. RTS elements include real-time combat, action paths and menus, and easy to control characters with up to 6 characters per party.[2]

Despite being Ned Jash, a Quidarian from the planet Therea Quan, players were supposed to be able to pick a side, suggesting they could side against Ned Jash's own people.[3]

Development[edit | edit source]

Development began in February 2000, though in the only available developer interview with Grzegorz Miechowski, he stated that he'd had the idea more than 3 years before.[4]. The URL for the official website was registered in 1999 and later promotional media has ©1999 written on it. Two Worlds was being built in the Wireframe Engine, a new technology for creating RPG games. Featuring state of art visualization technology, atmospheric effects, stunning character animation Wireframe Engine was said to introduce powerful tools, a flexible scripting system, and advanced AI capabilities

Planned Features[edit | edit source]

Two Worlds brings two of the best genres together in a dazzling mix![5]

The best elements of RPGs:[edit | edit source]

  • A rich, plausible world based on ancient mythology
  • A strong, well-written story
  • Individual character personality and identification
  • Character statistics, character development
  • "Psych-abilities" (a highly innovative replacement for spells)
  • Weapon skills and levels
  • Experience points
  • Hundreds of subquests
  • Non-player characters with unique personalities
  • Cinematic real-time cutscenes that use the game engine -there's no difference between the normal gameplay and the cutscene, so you won't feel like you're being torn out of the gameworld to watch a cutscene
  • Enemies have different characteristics and levels

The Best Elements of RTS:[edit | edit source]

  • Real-time battles
  • Action paths and menus
  • Easy to control characters with up to 6 characters per party
  • And pure adrenaline from start to finish!

Cancelation[edit | edit source]

It's unknown exactly when the game was canceled. The archived links on the official URLs vanish around March and April 2001, while the other sites, such as the Topware site and the Russian localization seemed to have vanished by September.

Story (Unedited)[edit | edit source]

Story (I)[edit | edit source]

The inhabitants of the Kroth Universe live a dream-like existence - until one day in the year 3001 a giant space / time collision changes things for ever. When all the dust settles, only two races have survived. Hardened by their plight, these two races engage in a bitter fight to the finish from which only one can emerge victorious. This is where your judgement comes in. You must decide which has the better chances and cast your lot accordingly.

Kroth is a universe very different from ours - to say the least. Hundreds of thousands of intelligent races populate its vast reaches. However, these races have no knowledge of each other, for the Kroth Universe has some interesting physical characteristics. A strange type of dust prohibits each planet from seeing the other. Since each planet has an atmosphere which keeps the dust out, intelligent life is possible, but only within the planetary sphere.[17]

Story (II)[edit | edit source]

The result is like thousands of goldfish bowls covered in canopies. Lack of visibility has prevented the races from developing space travel or any form of long-distance communication. So all these races live in blissful ignorance of the universe around them and have developed in very different - and sometimes highly unusual - ways.

Two very special races play an important the story: the Quidarians and the VadaiŽen Ceer. The game begins several days before the start of the Third Millennium on the Planet Therea Quan.[18]

STORY (III)[edit | edit source]

Whichever side you join, expect several large missions, which will keep you riveted to your seat. Every mission contains multiple subquests - where you'll meet intriguing new characters to do battle with or add to your party, gain experience points or search for new, powerful weapons.[19]
