Arveran is a remote island introduced in [[Shattered Embrace]] DLC. It's the main arena of the expansion (two others being alien realms of [[Outworld]] and the [[Red Dimension]]).

==Geography==
The central city of the island is [[Shadinar]], located in it's northeastern part. From there, three major regions of the island can be entered, each adjacent to it's walls: wild [[Karatree Reach]] lies to the west, dangerous [[Sharrean Forest]] to the south, and the [[Morrag Peninsula]] is located in between. Each must be visited to complete the main story of DLC, but access to each is unlocked in a fixed order.

There are two major hiil chains that form the natural borders between all three regions. [[Qual'atar Hills]] separate Karatree Reach from the Morrag Peninsula, and also house dangerous [[Qual'atar Canyons]]. More narrow chain of [[Vael'nir Hills]] separate the Peninsula from the Sharrean Forest, although [[Thunder Pass]] used to allow passage between the two. Two major rivers of Arveran are [[Averian River|Averian]] and [[Gramordan River|Gramordan]] (the latter being a tributary of the former), both located on the Morrag Peninsula.

Shadinar is not the only city on the island. The ruins of three other cities (see below) can be also explored, each located in a different region. The western tip of the Morrag Peninsula was magically sunken centuries before, transforming into the [[Cloudy Bay]], where [[Freehaven|another settlement]] was later built. 

==Politics==
At the time of the [[Hero]]'s visit, the entire island is ruled from Shadinar by the [[Elves]] as [[Kingdom of Arveran|their Kingdom]]. However, to understand the plot of the DLC, one must learn of the island's past.

In ancient time, Arveran used to house a multi-racial Utopian state known as [[Triumvirate of Arveran|the Triumvirate]], designed by the [[Founders]] as a perfect society. During [[Age of Heroes|that era]], the Elves lived only in [[Sharrean Forest|one region]] of the island, while two other regions were inhabited rather by [[Orcs]] and [[Humans]], respectively. Each race has its own Lord (three of them jointly ruled the island), and a separate capital: mighty cities of [[Lorrendar]], [[Gromshar]] and [[Tar-Dalnir]] housed the majority of each race's population. 

The major event that changed that was the [[Tenebrae Invasion]] that left three cities in ruins. A [[Age of Reconstruction|new era]] of cooperation began, since three races were forced to jointly build a common home, Shadinar, to survive. A completion of this city opened a [[Age of Harmony|centuries-long era]] of prosperity.

The second major event in Arveran's history was the civil war known as the [[Troubles]] which shattered a harmony between the three races. The Elves defeated both the Humans and the Orcs, who were either killed, or fled. Ruling the entire island for the first time, the victors have proclaimed the [[Kingdom of Arveran|Kingdom]] that replaced the Triumvirate (now obsolete). However, the policy of the ruling [[House of Dalnir|dynasty]] still has internal opponents, including [[Silver Dawn|some terrorists]].

A western shores of Arveran also hosts a non-Elven merchant town of [[Freehaven]], which is totally independent from the Elves. Run by a mixture of [[Motharks]] and [[Humans]], it provides its neighbors with various goods imported from elsewhere.
