The Seeing Stones are magical objects collectable in Shattered Embrace DLC, created on Arveran by the Founders. Although similar to the Travelling Orbs in both the number (one owned by each Lord) and the appearance (a crystal sphere), the Seeing Stones served a different function, allowing each Lord to communicate with both counterparts from his own Tower.

History

The Seeing Stones apparently remained in use throughouth the Age of Heroes, helping the First Triumvirate collectively rule the Triumvirate of Arveran. After the Tenebrae Invasion and the destruction of the Stone Crown, the Seeing Stones were abandoned by the Founders' children and left in the ruined structures that once housed them.

In-game

At the time of the Hero's visit, they can be still found in the underground Vaults below three Towers, which apparently remained intact. The can be collected duringLaginu's expert side quest. The Mayor wants to gather them to gain the upper hand in future negotiations with the Vanderbilt Consortium about the future of Freehaven.

Known Stones

They are three known Seeing Stones:

  • Seeing Stone of Lorren obtainable in Lorrendar ruins.
  • Seeing Stone of Gromsh obtainable in Gromshar ruins.
  • Seeing Stone of Dalnir obtainable in Tar-Dalnir ruins.

Trivia

  • Seeing Stones seem to allude to J.R.R. Tolkien's Palantiri, similar in both function and ethymology (the original ones meaning 'Seven Seeing-stones'). Both sets of artifacts were kept in magical towers (with Tolkien's Orthank or Minas Tirith), both sets served their masters as a means of communication, and both comprised of ancient relics (taking Lord of the Rings as a point of reference); a remnants of 'advanced' technology in the subsequent, less sophisticated era.
