Multiplayer is a completly different story to that of the single player, it is the time in which the main hero has been inprisoned by gandahar, this is so that no cheats or glitches can be used to benifit when using your characters on xbox live or over PS3 live, system link has been disabled for the very same reason, your multiplayer profile is completly different and it will be a different character and a different story so you are effectivly starting a different game.

Each one of these game modes uses a different profile character that is seperate from your main offline profile.  This is unfortunate; however, it is good because this stops other people from using cheats and glitches to better there character and you certainly wouldn't want this in the duel arena game mode.
