Speak with Sokaris.
 
{{Quote Text|Sokaris is testing my ability to identify metals.  Asked me to bring him five shards of steel before he'll continue teaching me his craft. Simple enough.}}
 
Dismantle a bunch of swords to get the five steel in your inventory.  If you did not pick up any loot prior to now, you can go outside and hunt a few groms down or find the corpses of those you previously killed. Loot their bodies by using the action key on them.  Once you have five steel, talk to Sokaris again to complete the quest and unlock Sokaris as a merchant.
