This article is a Call of the Tenebrae draft.
Articles are created and sometimes moved to the Draft namespace for numerous reasons. "Call of the Tenebrae:Irenite" needs to be either updated to fit the current Manual of Style or lacks relevant information and content. |
Irenite is a unique mineral found only in some remote locations of Antaloor. It has been introduced in Call of the Tenebrae DLC, where it can be considered the first (and only) 'elastic' resource in the series, since it can be (re-)processed at will (from big crystals, through shards, up to a dust; each having different properties) using a special workshop. It is also obtainable in Shattered Embrace, introducing specialized irenite merchants, but repreocessing is no longer possible (several 'raw' pieces can be harvested manually within the game world).
Usage[edit | edit source]
Irenite can be used differently, depending on the size of the fragment. When smashed into dust, It can be used in potions as alchemy ingredient; bigger shards can augment weaponry. Also, unique weaponry made only of irenite exists, and it needs shards of a specific size as its own upgrade material.
Known deposits[edit | edit source]
One of the first irenite mines known to exist was the one on the island Tebris where the Tenebrae used captured sailors as slaves to obtain the crystals, used later on as power sources for their war machines (like golems). The presence of the mineral on Tebris was one of the reasons why the Sixth Temple has been established there. The Tenebrae mine seized any operations as the Order itself (and so the Temple) was destroyed.
Tebris mine was re-opened ages later, when the kingdom of Ascalia re-populated the island and established its own colony there, as the settlement of Dorchad was founded. This new mine was operated by the Vanderbilt Consortium, it's owner being Ebenezer Vanderbilt. It's one of the major side quests locations in the Call of the Tenebrae.
There are other irenite mines in different regions of Antaloor. One of them has been introduced in Echoes of the Dark Past pack of mulitplayer maps. Another one, located on the Elven island of Arveran, is introduced in Shattered Embrace DLC (although it's no longer operational). Like Tenebrae monks before them, Elves are known to utilize irenite crystals as power source for their golems (called Ingot Wards).
