Giant insects are no newcomers to Antaloor. Giant spiders, ants, wasps and trachidis have been roaming the land for a while.

It's likely that those semi-flying (the wings may be vestigial only, allowing for hop-and-land attacks) insects share the territorial and hierarchical dependencies with another member of the genus, Giant Wasps (in which case you can expect some type of Ant queen to fight, and their mound is the only location they'll be actively protecting).
 
Air magic seems to be the most effective against them.
