The Gate of Lorren was a transdimensional magical gate in Lorrendar prior to it's destruction. It's sunken ruins can be found near present-day Freehaven. It takes part in the plot of Shattered Embrace DLC. Originally, the Gate was paired with the Orb of Lorren.

History

The Gate of Lorren was built by Archmage Lorren at the dawn of the Age of Heroes to allow his Human followers from Erimos (or possibly Eollas) to colonize Karatree Reach, which used to be their sole dominion at the time (as a part of the Triumvirate). Lorrendar was built in it's proximity.

During the Tenebrae Invasion, both the city and the Gate were sunken, when Tenebrae magic transformed the western shores of the Reach into the Cloudy Bay. The Gate was unused ever since.

In-game

The Gate of Lorren is visible beneath the waves north of the bridge linking Freehaven with the Royal Guard outpost on the shore. Although the Gate itself doesn't need to be visited directly, it's important to the plot, as Orias mentions he accidentally tapped to it while creating his portal from Tebris (at the very beginning of the DLC), which resulted in opening it on nearby Athria Beach (just like Adramelech tapped into the Gate of Gromsh to transport Fenrir's forces to Gromshar ruins). Throughout the main quest, it remains unusable.
