He will offer to create the writ of protection, required to go through the gate of Hatmandor, for the hero if only he could get his old scribing equipment back, thus starting the [[Scibe's Inkwell]] quest. The inkwell is located to the east of Bayan, in his old burned out house, in the middle of an almost circular formation of rocks. Loot at the location also contains [[Ranger Precision Skillbook]], and some armour and weapons. On return, his ex-wife [[Flora]], will start a conversation with you. She will warn you that her ex-husband is "slipping" and that the last person to try to use his writ was flagged and stopped at the gate. Instead, in exchange for you giving her the inkwell, she will offer to take you past the gate on an alternate route.
