Thome the Scribe, is a retired scribe living in Bayan. He is friendly yet weary of strangers, although, old age has claimed his days, it didn't claim Thome's health nor his talent. Thome spends his days sitting outside his house contemplating the state of what was once the Beautiful bastion in the desert, Bayan. Thome tells of how he was once a Scribe employed by the emperor and how he, after retirement, helped people with inexpensive forgeries, and how finally, he retired becuase the life wasn't his anymore. However, there is one different final story that Thome had told no one.
If you aren't on the Scribe's Inkwell quest, you can ask him what kind of services he offers, but all he will tell you is that he's been retired for quite a while. If you are, however, and have learned the password for his services (Lewsam the Gravedigger will tell you) he will offer to write you a writ of protection to pass through the gates to Hatmandor. He will tell you that he needs his special ink in order to make it look legitimate, thus starting the Scribe's Inkwell quest.
