Additional Details:

Cloudy Bay is a body of water adjacent to the island of Arveran. It lies west of Karatree Reach. It's visited in the Two Worlds II - Shattered Embrace DLC.

History[edit | edit source]

Cloudy Bay is not a part of Arveran's natural shoreline; rather, it was artificially created during the Tenebrae Invasion by the spells of the invading Tenebrae, who used their magic to make the large part of Karatree Reach (adjacent to its original shoreline) fall into the sea, including the ancient city of Lorrendar that the dark monks were besieging.

The bay created during the destruction of Lorrendar and adjacent lands became deserted by the surviving Human, and so it remained nameless for centuries; even during the Troubles, after which the Elves became the island's sole inhabitants.

It changed after Mothark ship (with Balek and Maleno on board) crushed in the area, carrying the first non-Elven settlers (some off-shore Humans followed in later years). In order not to break Elven laws (which by then forbade all non-Elves from settling on the island), they founded a new settlement outside off-shore, atop of Lorrendar ruins, gradually constructing a merchant town of Freehaven entirely over the waters of the bay (which finally got it's name).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Freehaven's origin story mentions a heavy fog that accompanied Maleno's landing (i.e. crushing his ship). The Bay's name might be connected to the event (especially the fog kept to appear in later years).
