Greston, who lives in the Stico Cave, asked you for a favor. He wants you to go to his mother Faoda, who is in Covelly Village, and tell her he is very sorry. He will begrudgingly give you the compass that goes with A Meeting With A Pirate/'Find My Compass' quest for Virgul the pirate so he can leave Stico Bay. You could also kill Greston and get the compass that way.
Once you get to Covelly find Faoda to give the message that Greston has asked you to forward to her. Faoda will tell you why Greston's living in the Stico Cave. He wanted to go to the village fair but his family was too poor to afford it. So one night he ended stealing from someone in the village and got caught that is how he ended living in the Stico Caves.
