DLC Echoes of the Dark Past

The Begrimed Grotto is the second of three PC exclusive Adventure Mode quests for the Echoes of the Dark Past DLC for Two Worlds II. The player is tasked with assaulting Crimson John's underground hideout and retrieving a Tenebrae book. Crimson John was hired to steal from the Giriza Thieves Guild by the Vanderbilts Consortium.

The Begrimed Grotto[edit | edit source]

You have reached Crimson John's hideout. Find the "Tract of the Tenebrae".
Read Lavarius' letters for more details.
Drear friend,

So it seems that Lavarius has convinced me to join your little fellowship. Although I suppose "convinced" is a strong work; us old soldiers tend to jump at the chance to get back into action and damn the consequences. And I'm expecting the consequences to be quite dire - trying to stop the Guilds (let alone the Churches!) from doing anything is the closest thing to suicide this side of a blade, and given how desperately they are trying to recover Tenebrae artifacts... we must be gutsy or just plain foolish to try and stop them.

But enough warm words. On to the task at hand.

Giriza has finally gotten their hands on the only known copy of the "Tract of the Tenebrae". The Vanderbilts' Consortium wanted it so badly the fools hired Crimson Jon's band of savages to get it for them. I understand they cannot have the theft linked to them, but I've rarely seen a more motley crew (his right hand is a Varn and they even have some Groms among them for the Gods' sakes!) than those mercenaries. I suppose the Vanderbilts' have so many bands of mercenaries working for them they all begin to blend together, the fools. Crimson John kept the Vanderbilts' name under wraps all right, but the Vanderbilt's underestimated their greed and lack of loyalty. From what I've been told, it took all of a half-day with tract before the louts decided to cancel the Vanderbilt contract, keep their money and disappear with the book. They must have boulders for balls and porridge for brains if they think they can just steal from the Giriza, double-cross the Consortium, sell the book to the highest bidder and go on with life as usual. There are easier ways to kill yourself, and they don't involve slow torture at the hands of the Consortium.

But enough about the ill-fated mercenaries; let's speak about the advantage we have just stumbled onto. With two dogs fighting-or as Lavarius put it, 'Inter duos combatentes tertius vincit.' we have a chance to get that book and put it into proper hands. My contacts have provided us with the location of John's underground hideout and our informants tell us that they have yet to sell the book. We must act fact. get to their hideout and get the book by any means necessary. They are wanted by the law in every part of Antaloor and with their idiotic little theft, neither Giriza nor any other Guild will protect or avenge them. Kill them all if you have to, just get that damned book and keep your head down- the last thing we need is to turn attention to us. Giriza and the Consortium will be on John's tail soon. Get in, do your job, get out.

May the Gods grant you speed.

-Roiche
It looks like I beat Giriza and Vanderbilts' men to Crimson John's hideout, but I still don't have much time. I have to find the "Tract of the Tenebrae" and get the hell out of here. John probably has the book; I doubt he'd trust one of his men to hold onto it.
Crimson John's men know we're here. We have to get the "Tract of the Tenebrae" from him the hard way...
Does anything ever go right? Vanderbilts sent John's goons to get more than one book. I need to get some answers from John and find out how many books there are total.
I found a letter on Crimson John's body. Turns out there are three books total and I'll bet every aura I have that the key he had on him opens the magically sealed locker I found earlier.
Find the locker and recover the books.
I have the books. Let's get the hell out of here.

A Secret Door[edit | edit source]

There's something strange about the wall on the far end. It looks like it could be a doorway.
I found a secret door in one of the rooms.

Mysterious Prisoner[edit | edit source]

This must be Crimson John's prisoner. Use your weapon to cut his bonds.
I found a prisoner of Crimson John's in a secret cavern. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?

Prison Break[edit | edit source]

What the hell just happened...?
The prisoner teleported away without so much as a thank-you. I need to find out who he was.
Search the cavern for clues about the prisoner's identity.

Vanderbilt[edit | edit source]

The prisoner was one of the Vanderbilts!
I found a seal with Vanderbilts's symbol on it! The prisoner must have dropped it when he fled. So much for keeping secrets... I have a feeling this won't' be the last time I run into someone from the Consortium.

Vanderbilt's Letter[edit | edit source]

Something was teleported into your bag!
Great. The Vanderbilts are taking an interest in me. This doesn't bode well for my future.
