Keep your friends close... is the second of four Adventure Mode quests for the Pirates of the Flying Fortress DLC for Two Worlds II. In order to stock the village, the village shaman asks you to go to the city of Shakhaar and meet with a mage named Lavaz who is seeking help eliminating a former associate of his; a fellow mage named Karghan.
Keep your friends close...[edit | edit source]
- ...but keep your enemies closer, as the old saying goes. But sometimes you don't even know which is which. These are dangerous times indeed, and life in the desert doesn't make things easier for any of you. In order to supply your village, you need to go to the nearby city and find the mage Lavaz, who is said to have some problems with an 'associate'. If anyone is able to help him, he's willing to repay the favour with auras.
Where's the mage?[edit | edit source]
Shaman: My children, the time has come to visit the city. Our supplies are running low, and likewise our money. It is said some manner of mage is seeking assistance in the city of Shakhaar. I want you to talk to him, and take care of his problem. If we are to survive here, we need money for supplies and medicine.
- In order to earn some money, our shaman has instructed me to find a mage named Lavaz in the nearby town of Shakhaar. Lavaz is said to have some pressing problems, and is apparently willing to pay well anyone who can solve them... or make them go away. The town lies just down the road from our village.
Keep your friends close...[edit | edit source]
Survivor: By Gods - Shakhaar is overrun with monsters! A traveling mage came to our city, saying that he required help most desperately, because he was being 'chased'. No one could have imagined by whom - or rather, by what! Now he stands alone, fighting against a legion of foul creatures. They came after him like cultures drawn to carrion. You're the one ones who can save him - and what's left of our city!
- The mage our shaman spoke of is trapped inside the city, a city now overrun by abominations. They seem to have come here directly after him. It would be best to keep him alive and safe, since he's supposed to have a job for us.....
- Now that the city is no longer filled with shambling undead horrors, I need to talk to the mage we came seeking in the first place. Hope he's still alive... and hiring.
Lavaz: You've saved my life! Damned Karghad sent these... these THINGS... to kill me. He knows that I am the only person who knows how to stop him. Karghan and I were...associates, once. Working together, seeking... immortality. But when it became clear that our research was coming close to yielding results, he betrayed me, and banished me from my own homestead! Someone must stop him, before he becomes immortal. There's only one way to break his spell: You need to find three ancient beasts living in the tombs in the desert... and destroy them. I can only hope and pray that you're strong enough. You're our one and only chance.
- The Mage called Lavaz told me his story. He wants us to kill his former associate, Karghan... and the task is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Karghan is protected by a powerful spell, a spell on which the two of them labored for years. It effectively renders Karghan immortal... but fortunately, there is a solution. Karghan draws his strength from three ancient beasts living somewhere in the desert. Destroying them will cripple his magical protection, making him susceptible to our attacks.
Q_3[edit | edit source]
Lavaz: Splendid! Now, for the hardest part -- you need to face Karghan himself. Although his protective spells are weakened, he still is a powerful mage: Prepare yourself for a long and grueling fight. Be especially aware of his teleportation skills. Good luck, and Gods be with you.
- Lavaz appeared to give us final instructions. If Karghan really is so powerful, it would be good to know what to do when facing him... or perhaps, what not to do.
Keep your friends close...[edit | edit source]
- Now that Karghan's spell appears to be broken, we can confront him directly and kill him... Doing the whole of Antaloor a big favour. And, of course, earing some badly-needed money......
- Lavaz is waiting for us near the entrance to the temple. We need t talk to him to claim our reward.
Lavaz: You've done it! I can scarcely believe it! Do you realize what a tremendous thing you have accomplished? Karghan was unthinkably dangerous - not just to us, but to the whole of Antaloor! If he'd had just a little more time at his disposal... Gods between us and evil, he didn't. Thank you once again.
- Karghan is dead, and peace seems to be restored. Songs of your great deeds will be sung in the nearby town for generations!
